Republican Party of Minnesota served with eviction papers for its St. Paul office space

via PoliticsInMinnesota.com:

“The debt-plagued Republican Party of Minnesota is getting kicked out of its party headquarters near the state Capitol.

Massachusetts-based Hub Properties Trust filed paperwork in Ramsey County on Wednesday to evict the state GOP for failing to pay more than $96,000 in rent over the last year.

The eviction action follows a series of revelations last winter regarding debts accrued by the party during the reign of former RPM Chairman Tony Sutton. In December, an internal review of  finances revealed that the Party owes $1.23 million to creditors, plus more than $700,000 in legal fees accrued during the 2010 gubernatorial recount, and is facing possible fines from the Federal Elections Commission for undisclosed debts. The party is also currently being investigated by the state campaign finance board.”

Fiscal conservatism, my ass.

Good riddance!

Young ‘Millennials’ losing faith in record numbers

WASHINGTON — A growing tide of young Americans is drifting away from the religions of their childhood — and most of them are ending up in no religion at all.

One in four young adults choose “unaffiliated” when asked about their religion, according to a new report from the Public Religion Research Institute and Georgetown University’s Berkley Center for Religion, Peace & World Affairs.

If we tell our children about gays too early, they might grow up to be more accepting about sexuality and gender issues!!
Can’t have that.

if you don’t already love Josh Hutcherson, I’m suggesting you reconsider. {x}

This just reeks of privilege. Getting rid of labels is not going to make heterosexism (and all of the other -isms) go away. While yes, we are just people, society does not view the LGBT community as people. Not saying gay or lesbian is not going to make people stop being heterosexist jackasses, it will only make people ignore heterosexism and make heterosexism worse.

Meanwhile, this guy is accepting an award from GLAAD in this gif for being an ally and has done a lot of work as an ally for the LGBT community, including roles he’s picked. Don’t get me wrong, I tell friends off ALL THE TIME for saying shit like “I don’t see race” or “what’s the point of labels” but I tell them off because they are saying all that shit and not doing any work to make that kind of world possible. HE IS.

Just because he is an ally, doesn’t mean he doesn’t fuck up. Ally’s are not perfect. While his intent was good, the statement was bad. I like Josh. He seems like an awesome person but this reeks of hetero privilege. I don’t care that he was accepting an award from GLAAD, what he said is still problematic.

As somebody who is queer myself, I have to agree that we should live in a world where children don’t HAVE to come out to their parents or anybody, because it doesn’t matter. They bring home who they want to take on a date and nobody bats an eye. I don’t think hoping for that is privileged AT ALL. I don’t think it’s coming by the time he has grown kids by any means, but I think he’s trying and if he wants to say that’s his goal in being an ally then good for him. Shoot for the moon, land among the stars.

Basis of comparison: “I don’t care if people are gay so long as they aren’t gay in front of me.” TOTALLY privileged comment, totally ignores the power the speaker has in being allowed to be “straight” in front of anybody, and at the end of the sentence, the speaker will go back to not giving two fucks about us.

As someone who is also queer, I would love that as well. However, I do not like the first picture, which is what I have a problem with. I have a problem with him saying he is sick of saying the words “gay” and “lesbian.” Great, he will love his child regardless of their sexual orientation. However, labels are important. Saying you are sick of saying the words gay and lesbian does not change that and comes from a place of privilege because he does not have to label his sexuality.
